The Portuguese Surf Film Festival (PSFF) is almost back in Ericeira: between the 22nd and 31st of this month its 11th edition (the biggest ever) will take place, presenting (as is tradition) the best of the international surf cinema.

This year, the event brings 43 films to the first World Surfing Reserve in Europe – the bulk of the screenings will take place at Casa da Cultura Jaime Lobo e Silva, in a welcoming return after two years marked by the pandemic that forced the PSFF to reinvent itself and adapt, with a virtually digital edition in 2020 and by moving to Santa Marta Park last year.

In addition to the sessions between four walls at Casa da Cultura in Ericeira, this year also marks the return of one of the most popular and applauded initiatives of the festival, with the holding of a “Special Beach Session” at Praia dos Pescadores – scheduled for 10 pm on July 30 (Saturday), it will screen two films: “50 Years Around the Sun” and a remastered version of the mythical “Morning of the Earth”.

This film festival has the support of the Municipality of Mafra, and President Hélder Sousa Silva highlights that “with 43 films in competition, this is the most attended edition ever, distinguished by some novelties: the involvement of the new film generation and environment enthusiasts, in the context of ocean conservation; and the return to the beach, making the festival a meeting point with the community.”

The event will last for 10 days total, starting at 8:30 pm everyday – except for the aforementioned outdoor cinema session and the opening day, which will start at 7 pm, with music by DJ Kid Selecta and Welcome Drinks, in addition to the opening of the “Ocean Art” exhibition.

This year also brought a preview: in partnership with Patagonia, the PSFF invited the entire community to the European premiere of the film “The Yin & Yang of Gerry Lopez” (a work by renowned director Stacy Peralta, which lifts the veil over one of surfing’s most enigmatic heroes), which took place in Ribeira d’Ilhas, on July 14. Those who couldn’t watch it on that date will have another opportunity on the closing night of the festival, from 10:30 pm.

In this edition, more than four dozen titles can be seen, including “The Facing Monster”, “Tito Nazaré”, “3 Women and the Sea” or “Fé Salgada”, in addition to many other works that will be shown at the film festival.

The complete schedule can be seen on the PSFF’s official website, as well as information for purchasing tickets, which can be purchased online.
