The biggest team surfing championship is coming to Praia de Ribeira d’Ilhas, in Ericeira on June 20th and 21st. “Sumol Local Legends” is presented by Joaquim Chaves, the 2023 Portuguese champion, and is intended to celebrate surf culture.
The forty athletes will compete in eight teams of five surfers in the categories Open Pro, Open Amateur, Open Women, Junior, and Master. Inspired by the healthy rivalry between the country’s different surf spots, each team will represent a region.

Among the participants are some of the biggest names in Portuguese surfing, including last year’s winner, Guilherme Ribeiro, for Costa da Caparica, as well as Tiago Pires for Ericeira, Frederico Morais (Cascais), and Nic Von Rupp – Praia Grande. Teams from Porto, the Algarve, Peniche, and Santa Cruz will also take part.
In addition to the title of Portugal’s best surf spot, a prize money of 6.000 euros is at stake.
