After the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve Management Regulations came into force, the entities that constitute the respective Municipal Management Council began to outline some initiatives and strategies for the future of this valuable collective heritage.

Recently, the first meeting of the Municipal Council for the Management of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve (with an advisory, articulation and cooperation role, in safeguard matters related to the protected natural landscape of the Reserve) was held; and the Municipality of Mafra and the Institute of European and Atlantic Culture, based in Ericeira, have concluded a cultural and scientific collaboration agreement, with the objective of producing a videography on the seabed of the four kilometers of this coastal strip.

These initiatives now join Ericeira WSR Interpretation Center, inaugurated in June 2016, and the announced creation of the Ericeira WSR Ecological Park.

Recall that at the end of 2016 the guardian associations of Ericeira WSR and the Municipality of Mafra defended the creation of a Protected Landscape Area in this coastal territory.

Ericeira World Surfing Reserve (which remains to be the only one in Europe) integrates about 4 km of coastline between the beaches of Empa and S. Lourenço, bringing together seven world-class waves: Pedra Branca, Reef, Ribeira d’Ilhas, Cave, Crazy Left, Coxos and São Lourenço.
