Ericeira keeps being brought up worldwide. Besides being Europe’s only World Surfing Reserve and ranking highly in Lonely Planet’s and Trivago’s lists, the fishing village was distinguished by The Times as the world’s third best waves destination.

The list of the ten best destinations to surf in was made by the british journalist and surfer Alex Wade. The british newspaper’s ranking places Ericeira ahead of regions such as Gold Coast in Australia, North Shore of Oahu, in Hawaii, and Jeffrey’s Bay, in South Africa.

Among the favourable reasons mentioned by Wade is the shoreline with a large diversity of waves – such as Coxos, São Lourenço and Crazy Left, “one of the bodyboarders’ favourites” – and the proximity to Lisbon and Sintra, which allows for an excellent way to spend some time in days with limited conditions.

Santa Cruz, in California, USA, was elected by The Times as the planet’s best destination to enjoy some waves, followed by Hossegor in southeast France.
