Recently, the former Portuguese surf champion Miguel Blanco gave an interview to Ericeira Living website. This is not just a familiar face in the world of surfing, Blanco is also an activist who never ceases to amaze with his actions aimed at making our planet a better place.

Since he returned from his trip to the Maldives, Miguel’s life has changed. It was here “that it all started” and the surfer realized that it is increasingly necessary to take care of our planet.

“I was surfing on a small island in the Maldives, which was full of people and unfortunately also full of rubbish. There were people who stopped to take pictures. But they didn’t do anything, they didn’t pick up a single bottle, a piece of plastic”, Miguel said, “through surfing and his love for nature, he started this journey and became more aware of our mission here: taking care of our planet and taking care of each other”.

“It only takes a gesture, the first step!”, says Miguel Blanco… “A small gesture can be what changes an entire life, an entire community, an entire world”.

“It all started with a gesture. I started with trash and am now an ambassador for the Eat For Change campaign. As an ambassador, I would like to help raise public awareness about the importance of choosing a sustainable diet. Let’s think about what we eat, where it comes from and how it is produced. By choosing a sustainable diet, we are taking care of our health while we see that the planet has enough resources for future generations.”

On the occasion of the celebrations for the 10th anniversary of Ericeira’s World Surfing Reserve, Blanco presented the first episode of the Fuel TV Impact Series, a film that promotes environmental awareness and in which he appears as the protagonist. Along with fellow environmental activist and surfer João Macedo, Miguel strongly defends the power of a community that works together to save the planet.

“It was a great moment, a pleasure to share my project and try to bring together a strong community with the same objective. We need to be aware of our actions and how they impact the environment and the ecosystem”, was Miguel’s statement to the website about the presentation of this film.
