Voting for the World Travel Awards is taking place right now and the Lisbon Region is competing for Best Metropolitan Seaside Destination.
Although the Portuguese capital has already won several international awards over the years, it has yet to win the award for Best Metropolitan Seaside Destination.
This year will be the 29th edition of the event, and the Lisbon region could be the winner of this and other four categories, as it is also nominated for Best City Destination, Best City Break Destination, Best Cruise Destination and Best Cruise Port in Europe.
Ericeira is one of the bathing areas that contributes to this nomination
If there is something unique about Lisbon, it is its beaches with crystal clear water, since this region is especially known for its landscapes and touristic offer. Beaches and bathing areas that make up this region, such as Setúbal, Sesimbra, Costa da Caparica, Ericeira, Cascais and Sintra, are distinguished by their surfing, diving and the most diverse water sports activities. Some of the activities that, as you can see in Ericeira and other coastal destinations, catch the eye of the world.
Voting takes place until the August 8 and the prize winners will be announced on the 1st of October this year.
The World Travel Awards were established in 1993 to recognise, reward and celebrate excellence in all key sectors of travel, tourism and hospitality industries. Today, the World Travel Awards brand is recognised worldwide as the pinnacle of excellence in this industry.
