Interpretation Center of the World Surfing Reserve inaugurated on June 3

The Interpretation Center of the only World Surfing Reserve in Europe, which will integrate the building of the Ericeira Tourism Office – currently under rehabilitation works by the Municipality of Mafra – will be inaugurated on June 3. The purpose of the municipality is to to outline the importance of surfing and tourism to its social, cultural and economic development.

According to the press release of experimentadesign, the cultural association responsible for the project, the “Interpretation Center will have a strong experiential, interactive and mix-media component, exploring various digital communication tools to share contents on the Reserve.”

The Ericeira Tourism Office (located next to Praça da República in the center of the village) will continue to operate in the ground-floor of the building, and the Interpretation Centre of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve will be installed on the 1st floor. The Tourism Office will also have a Surf Cafe, as a means of emphasizing the local surf culture and the identity of Ericeira, both recognized worldwide.

For the President of the Municipality of Mafra, Helder Sousa Silva, “this is a project that aims to qualify the conditions how visitors are welcomed and how information is provided, enhancing the tourism potential of Ericeira, but above all giving the necessary visibility to the Reserve and Portuguese surf, through a new space with unique features.

The opening is scheduled for June 3 at 4 pm, with the presence of Tiago Pires, the best Portuguese surfer of all time.
