Digital art is the future for us. Art and ours. Digital art as an object and as communication where we combine art with design to create projects where our artistic component can make a difference. We bring together several areas, such as animation, design, music production, illustration and augmented reality, to create a large part of our projects.
What are your main influences and inspirations?
Bearing in mind that we are a multi-disciplinary project and work in many different areas, our inspirations are somehow heterogeneous. In animation, we get a lot of inspiration from Han Hoogerbrugge and Bill Plympton; in the comic strips, from Jean Giraud and from the Brazilian counterculture magazines of the 90s (Chiclete com Banana, Piratas do Tietê, Níquel Nausea, Animal, etc); in art M.C.Escher, Nam June Paik and Rebecca Horn; in design David Carson and Saul Bass; and, finally, in music the influences range from Fado to Black Metal, passing through Pop, Noise, Industrial, Pimba, etc.
Highlights of the creative journey
On the artistic side, having Tumblr and the Huffington Post naming one of our animated illustrations as one of the best art GIFs in 2014, and having Maroon5 inviting us to create three animated illustrations for the release of the album “Red Pill Blues”, in 2017, are really up there. We also have to point out that we were invited to the 2018 and 2019 Merc’art and sold out all of our original works in both years, and also the creation of several animated illustrations for KitKat, Fox and Paramount, among others. In terms of design, having companies like EDP, Sonae Sierra, Associação Mutualista Montepio, Jerónimo Martins and others to rely more and more on our author design has been something we never thought to achieve a few years ago.
our main long-term goal has always been, remains and will always be doing what we like in the place we love the most
What project are you working on now?
At this moment, in addition to the continuation of our artistic project through new works for sale in our online store, we still have some design and motiongraphic projects in hand: the reshaping of the entire animated image of E-Redes (formerly EDP Distribuição ); the creation of the new visual identity and communication for Sonae Sierra’s Cartão Surprise; and also the creation of a new graphic and generic identity for a new project by Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation.
Medium and long term goals
Our main long-term goal has always been, remains and will always be doing what we really like in the place we love the most. We achieved that goal a few years ago and now it is not to let it slip away.
Is digital art your job?
Yes, we can say that. Today we work full time in the development of these areas and in some projects we have even managed to combine several roles and work in several areas together. For example, by combining art and illustration with a graphic identity and a communication campaign, as we did recently for the Sonae Sierra’s Cartão Surprise, or how to develop the illustration, animation and music for a video, as we have already done for EDP and for Associação Mutualista Montepio.
