The Golden Beach Award 2024, compiled by BeachAtlas, is a ranking that lists the top 100 beaches in the world based on the opinions of travel experts and selected digital influencers from around the globe, and this year Coxos Beach appears in the 58th place.

According to the website, Coxos Beach “echoes the ancient ‘Jagoz’ people’s deep connection to the sea, who once lived right here.”

“Just as the ‘Jagoz’ lived exclusively in harmony with the ocean’s gifts, modern surfers at Praia dos Coxos embrace the sea’s rhythm, crafting a life intertwined with the waves. This enduring legacy crowns Praia dos Coxos as a jewel in Europe’s surfing capital of Ericeira,” it adds.

In this list, the national highlight is Dona Ana Beach in Lagos (Algarve), which ranks 23rd.

The organizers of the Golden Beach Award 2024, BeachAtlas, are a London-based startup focused on developing an encyclopedia of beaches. In this evaluation, the ranking considered not only the visual beauty of the water and rock formations, but also other elements that affect the overall beach experience, such as biodiversity, associated culture, the local community, whether it is suitable for nudism, or the lifestyle in the location.

[Note: This publication by BeachAtlas presents several inaccuracies, namely: a) the term ‘Jagoz’ refers solely to the indigenous people of Ericeira – not also Ribamar, where Coxos Beach is located; b) Coxos Beach should not be confused with the Coxos wave, which is located in the Baía dos Dois Irmãos (Bay of the Two Brothers), popularly known as Coxos Bay, south of the aforementioned beach.]
