Ericeira is the venue for the ASP World Junior’s surfing finals – the under-20 competition known as junior’s WCT – from October 25 to November 2, announced ASP in its official website.
In the last few months there was the rumour that Ericeira could be the destination for the final event of the junior’s WCT and now the confirmation has made that possibility become true.
The event in Ericeira is the highlight of a golden year for the surfing tourism in Portugal with the country now selected to be the world surfing’s capital during two months. The calendar includes the Eurojunior in Azores, a Prime event in those islands, a women’s World Tour stage, another Prime event in Cascais and Peniche’s World Tour stage. All this before ending the international calendar with the junior’s championship in Ericeira, which will decide who’s the new under-20 world champion.
As far as it concernes to Ericeira’s riders, the expectations are all going for Tomás Fernandes and Carina Duarte as they are on the verge of getting a wildcard. As for international names, it’s likely that Filipe Toledo (Brazil), Soli Bailey, Jacob Willcox and Cooper Champan (all from Australia), Kanoa Igarashi, Cam Richards and Parker Coffin (all from USA), Dulan Lighfoot (South Africa), Tatiana Weston-Webb and Mahina Maeda (both from Hawaii), Meah Collins and Tia Blanco (both from USA) and women’s world champion Ella Williams (New Zealand) will be in Ericeira for the competition.
