Ericeira became one of the most emblematic places for surfing, and other water sports globally in 2011, the year it was established as World Surfing Reserve, in order to preserve the ecosystem and the waves. But even before it was awarded this title, its history and surfing community were already large.

Currently, Ericeira is the only World Surfing Reserve existing on the European continent, with a stretch of coast of 4 km long, starting from the S. Lourenço’s Beach all the way to Empa’s Beach and where you can find seven incredible waves.

This video of the week explains the significance of the award, making a tour through the Interpretation Centre of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, which aims to present this environmental and cultural heritage to every citizen of the world who visits us.

Located in the Ericeira Tourism building, this Interpretation Centre is at the forefront of technology, providing an interactive table that helps to better understand the quality of the waves, or even the weather, vegetation and species found in the entire area.
