Tourism of Waves highlighted on FITUR 2014

Portugal will consolidate its presence in the tourism of waves at the largest and most important world tourism fair, FITUR, which takes place in Madrid from the 22th to the 26th of January, 2014.

The Tourism of Portugal stand, with a total area of 818 m2, will account for 40 tourism company, representing the seven regions of portuguese tourism that, besides the patrimony, the gastronomy and culture, this year will also promote surfing and the main surf spots in the portuguese coast line.

Surf has been achieving an important role in our country’s economy for the last years, attracting thousands of surfers from all over the world, who come looking for the diversity and the quality of portuguese waves, boosted by the impact of Nazaré’s giant waves, the surfing championships in Peniche or the World Surfing Reserve in Ericeira.

The Madrid International Tourism Fair is the main platform of promotion in world tourim. In last year’s edition were present 30 tourism ministers from all over the world, with the fair having been visited by 210 thousand people, of which 130 thousand were professionals of the sector.
