Born in Mozambique on Christmas Day 1946, Fernando José de Simões e Menezes would come to be better known in the artistic world simply as Fernando Menezes, a painter with deep connections to Ericeira, where he died in 1996.
In December 1997, Casa da Cultura Jaime Lobo e Silva hosted an exhibition of his work – it is precisely the digitization of the catalog of this exhibition (carried out by Pedro Crisóstomo) that serves as the basis for this article, in which, in addition to the photogallery, we took the opportunity to leave a brief biography of the Artist.
Between 1980 and 1990 he edited several series of postcards with his serigraphs illustrating Ericeira’s historic monuments.
The aesthetics of his painting are strongly influenced by Iberian surrealism, in particular Juan Miró and Salvador Dali.
