Ribeira d’Ilhas beach is one the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world for surfing according to a list published by Surfer Today (surfertoday.com). Portuguese surfing Mecca, and the only World Surfing Reserve in Europe, comes next in the list to national treasures such as Arrifana, Carrapateira, Guincho, Porto Santo, Zavial (Algarve), Santa Bárbara (Azores) e Praia do Norte (Nazaré).
Surfer Today trailed Northern Europe’s cold waters, as well as the warmer termperatures of Brazil and the Ecuator line, and found the beaches that can turn a simple surfing day into an unforgettable experience.
The requirements are simples: white sand beaches, light blue waters and cliffs to take the breath away from those surfing next to them. But in all of these, the waves are the core element.
According to the website, in the selected beaches we can find the best of two worlds: “waves and dreamy landscapes”. In the list we also find places like Fernando de Noronha (Brazil), Montanita Beach (Ecuador), Skeleton Bay (Namibe), Tavarua (Fiji) ou Surfers Paradise (Australia).
