Taberna Lebre was considered one of the best places in Portugal to have pregos at a very affordable price by MAGG, in a recently published article with a list of seven restaurants located all over the country.
Don’t know where to have lunch on the weekend? Lebre, as it is locally known, may very be the perfect place to try this typical Lusitanian sandwich, the prego. This dish from Ericeira’s most famous tavern is described by MAGG as “possibly the most innovative one you’ll find in the country”.

Not limited to the more traditional prego, consisting of a long beef steak “that barely fits inside the bread”, it also offers more daring options, such as pizza prego, Alentejo prego and prego with goat cheese, the English prego or with bacon. Whatever the choice, any foodie is sure to be satisfied.
In addition to the good cuisine and the friendliness of the staff, the price is quite friendly as well. Prego prices range from €3.20 to €5.40, always guaranteeing good quality.
More than a tavern, Lebre is an institution from Ericeira. For decades, this establishment overlooking “Jogo da Bola” was a meeting point for generations of locals and village devotees, from the “old guard” who accompanied the domino afternoons with two or three drinks to the nightlife youth who took over the street with beer in hand.
The MAGG list also includes the Sala de Corte and Cervejaria Ramiro restaurants, both in Lisbon, Horácio, in Linda-a-Velha, Rui dos Pregos, in Sintra and Lisbon, Apetisqueira, in Barreiro, and also Pregaria of Guimarães, in the birthplace of portuguese nationality.
