The National Palace of Mafra has opened its mythical underground tunnels to the public on January 27, with the initiative “A Story to Tell”.

This nocturnal activity, which takes place during the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the monument, is happening until November 2017. Once a month it will be possible to visit the underground galleries and find out if the famous giant rats (there are also those who swear that they are albinos and / or blind) are just an
urban myth that has manifested itself beyond the lines of Mafra.

The first track is set at Escola das Armas (School of Arms), in the military cloister of the Palace.

These free entry visits require mandatory booking (over the phone – 261 100 303) and always start at 21:30.
