Nomad Earth Media, a production company based in Graz, Austria, will return to Ericeira from May 20 to 27 for an international coworking retreat, conferences and workshops exclusively for 20 entrepreneurs and professionals in the publishing and creative areas. The meeting, which will take place at Portugal Surf Camp, aims to promote a space of inspiration and networking where entrepreneurship meets the surfing culture.
The week-long initiative is destined to communication professionals, particularly in the areas of publishing and content making, including bloggers, digital marketers, writers, social networking experts and filmmakers.
“We have presentations and workshops where participants can learn from different experts while presenting their projects and ideas and receive valuable feedback,” Robert Lecker, founder of Nomad Earth Media, told AZUL. “In the end, these people will take with them new ideas for their business, friendships and international contacts of professionals with similar interests who will certainly be a source of inspiration for everyone.”
Lecker notes, however, that not everything will be about working: “There will be time to enjoy the village, surf and drink a few beers.”
Surfing will be the key element of the retreat, with participants making the most of an exceptional opportunity in order to experience the waves of the World Surfing Reserve in a mix of professional activity and nature. “[In surf] you have to be focused and that cleans your mind, creating space for creative thinking,” Lecker said. “And you are exposed to the ocean and nature, which are always a good source of inspiration and creativity. Getting out of the office and strolling between nature always works, whether through surfing, mountaineering or even napping in the countryside.”
Lecker, whose background includes public relations, marketing and media, also emphasized that activities other than surfing will be encouraged to enjoy in the village. “Participants don’t have to be surfers, there are many ways to enjoy Ericeira without a surf board,” explains Lecker. “There are people who engage in yoga, cultural excursions or just relaxing by the sea.”
This will be the second edition of the retreat named Nomad Earth/SPACES, succeeding a first experiment carried out last year in Ericeira under the banner of knowledge exchange among professionals related to startups, new businesses and innovation in the most diverse creative areas. Lecker told AZUL that the inaugural meeting was a success and that much was due to the quality of the waves and life inherent to Ericeira.
