Mafra is currently celebrating the tercentenary of its Palace, which is one of the most important manifestations of the European Baroque. The extensive celebration program, which started in November 2016, will end only on 17 November this year, when in 1717 the construction of the monument (which is simultaneously a royal palace, a basilica, a convent, a garden and a forest) was begun.
The full program of the celebrations (which includes, among other initiatives and events, conferences, pyromusical shows, videomapping, exhibitions, concerts and historic recreations) can be found here. Today AZUL joins the party with a video of its own production in which it’s possible to walk through the Palace inside and out. Among various rooms and environments, we can enter the basilica, walk through the gardens and Terreiro D. João V and hear the unmistakable sound of the chimes.
The celebrations in progress will also be used in order to qualify some of the spaces and equipment present in this video, distinguishing the recovery of the chimes and the mural of the throne room, as well as the improvement of physical accessibility and communication.
