Contracts were recently signed for the interventions planned for Mafra National Palace.
In addition to the rehabilitation works of the Palace, the permanent installation of the National Museum of Music in this monument is planned, which should start in early 2022 and be finished in the first quarter of 2023.

It is estimated that the total investment in the works – which is set to start in the third quarter of 2023, with its completion by the end of 2023 – will reach nine million euros, including coverage and conservation of the Palace’s facades, rehabilitation of the North/South towers, conservation and restoration of the Library and rehabilitation of the Basilica, as well as installation of a Wi-Fi network.
In addition, the municipality of Mafra should receive the installation of the National Sound Archive – a decision that will make it possible to safeguard, preserve and disseminate the entire national sound heritage, in a collaboration between public and private entities. The protocol provides that the municipality must provide a building for the installation of the Archive, as well as carry out the preliminary program and the architectural project, in a concerted work with the Installation Team of the National Sound Archive and the General Directorate of Book, Archives and Libraries.
