Six beaches in the Municipality of Mafra have “Golden Quality”

Quercus released the list of 441 bathing areas qualified with Golden Quality in 2022, from all over the country. In the Municipality of Mafra, there are 6 beaches worthy of this award – one less than last year.

S. Lourenço (distinguished consecutively since 2012), Algodio, Coxos, Foz do Lizandro – Mar, Calada Port and Ribeira d’ilhas are the beaches flying the Golden Quality flag this year. Praia da Baleia (South Beach) is off the list, unlike last year.

In this bathing season, Quercus identified, based on official public information provided by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), 441 bathing areas with Golden Quality in Portugal (48 more than in 2021), of which 360 are coastal, 72 inland and 9 transition. Analyzing by regions, it appears that the Tagus and the West Region once again recorded the highest number of awarded beaches (102), followed by the Algarve Region (86) and the North Region (78). In the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira, there was an increase of 12 and 5 awarded beaches, respectively, which represents a percentage increase of 28% and 17%, respectively. The Alentejo Region also recorded a significant increase of 26%.
