Jazz is back to Mafra in yet another edition of the musical cycle organised by the Municipality.
In total, there are four concerts of national projects between March 12 and June 11: from the great songs of the classic American repertoire to the new approaches to jazz, giving space to improvisation but also to the sound manifestations that embrace the general public.
Jugalbandish, Joana Rodrigues, Gonçalo Sousa and Sílvia Nazário make up the poster for this edition
The shows, always scheduled to 9 pm, are broadcasted live on Municipality of Mafra’s Facebook page.
The inaugural concert entitled “Jugalbandish”, which means “playing together”, presented last Friday a piano and tabla duo composed by Vasco Pimentel and Niraj Singh, focused mainly on improvisation and interaction between the musicians.
The second concert, scheduled for April 16, will be starring Joana Rodrigues, in a quartet format, presenting a journey through the creative laboratory of the interpreter and composer.
“Um Sorriso para o Toots” (“A Smile for Toots”) is the name of Gonçalo Sousa’s quartet’s tribute to Toots Thielemans, in a show scheduled for May 7.
The closing concert, on June 11, will feature Silvia Nazário, in a trio format, featuring “Tons Azuis” (Blue Tones), the most recent work by the singer and songwriter.
