The municipality of Mafra kept the beaches awarded last year
The Gold Quality Award 2020 was awarded to 386 national beaches, 11 more than in 2019. The Algarve region had the biggest drop, while the Tagus and West regions (which the municipality of Mafra belongs to) registers the highest increase in award-winning bathing areas. Of the awarded beaches, 322 are coastal beaches, 54 are inland beaches and 6 are transition beaches.
evaluation uses information provided by the Portuguese Environment Agency
Quercus – National Association for Nature Conservation distinguishes, with this seal, the quality of bathing water on Portuguese beaches.
In the present pandemic context, Quercus considers it is essential to comply, also on the beaches, with the sanitary rules outlined by the Directorate-General of Health, namely to avoid concentrations of people in the sand and in the access to the bathing areas – for this, bathers should consult the InfoPraia mobile app from the Portuguese Environment Agency.
