The Municipality of Mafra and Tratolixo extended their pilot project “Separate More & Transform Better”, “Separe Mais & Transforme Melhor”, in Portuguese (started in 2020 in the Parish of Mafra), to the Union of Parishes of Malveira and S. Miguel de Alcainça and to the Union of Parishes of Venda do Pinheiro and Santo Estevão das Galés.

It is now intended to extend the project to the rest of the parish of Ericeira, the parish of Mafra and the parish unions of Malveira and São Miguel de Alcainça and Venda do Pinheiro and Santo Estevão das Galés.

until the end of February, the team responsible for the initiative will carry out door-to-door awareness and clarification actions

This initiative started as an action for the valorization of biowaste, aimed at domestic consumers – the pilot project “Separate More & Transform Better”. Through this Pilot, around 3,500 families in the village of Ericeira were sensitized.

Until the end of February, the team responsible for the initiative will carry out various door-to-door awareness and clarification actions, with the free distribution of a kit for the recovery of food waste, which provides for the collection of biowaste in green bags, turning them into organic compost.

But how does this process happen? Biowaste is collected using specific colored bags for this purpose – food scraps are separated in the kitchens and placed in the green bag. The bags must be closed with a double knot and placed in the container intended for the deposit of undifferentiated waste, already available on the public roads.
