The Mafra City Council unanimously decided on Friday to submit the Masterplan for the Camping Park and Ericeira’s Urban Green Park (Parque Verde Urbano) for approval by the Municipal Assembly.

In a total of around 18 hectares, formerly allocated exclusively to the Camping Park, it is intended to combine two distinct valencies for two different audiences: on the one hand, the requalification of the Camping Park, reinforcing the quality standards offered to tourists; on the other hand, the creation of an Urban Green Park, until now non-existent in Ericeira, improving residents’ quality of life.

Following the redefinition of the area allocated to the Camping Park, it will now occupy about 6 hectares, which corresponds to the area that has a pre-existing infrastructure for tourist activity and also a tree area that will provide shade and comfort to users. These 6 hectares will be used for camping, caravanning and motorhomes. The requalification work, as well as the spaces reorganization, will take place in phases, with a total estimated investment of €843,500. Once the first phase is completed, the intention is to ensure, by the end of June 2023, the opening of the Camping Park to the public.

The Ericeira’s Urban Green Park will occupy an area of around 12 hectares, which corresponds to the area closest to the consolidated urban fabric of the town. The execution of the respective project will be promoted by the municipal services, with plans to conserve and enhance the existing arboreal heritage for the creation of a green space which, while also being equipped with car parking capacity, will include leisure areas (space for games and recreation for children, picnic area, dog park, amphitheater and bar/café) and sports facilities: partially covered multi-sports area for practicing sports such as basketball, 5 to 5 football and padel, Lynx Race obstacle course, BMX area, skateboard and pump track, bouldering/climbing, maintenance circuit and fitness equipment, among others.
