A balance sheet of visits made to museums, monuments and palaces managed by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage (DGPC) in 2022 was recently carried out, which revealed a total of 3.339,416 visitors. The National Palace of Mafra is in the seventh position in the list of the 10 most visited in Portugal during last year.
Although the numbers have recovered by around 2 million more visitors since the Covid-19 pandemic, the figures presented in the last year are far from equaling the number of pre-pandemic visitors, namely the years 2017, 2018 and 2019, which represent 5.072,266, 4.677,407 and 4.685,371 entries, respectively.

In 2019 (the last pre-pandemic year) the National Palace of Mafra registered 360.845 visitors, having thus suffered a sharp drop to a total of 189.694 in the last year. During the pandemic years, 2020 and 2021, the National Palace received 129.995 and 105.980 visitors, respectively, resulting in 2022 an improvement of 83.714 visitors compared to the previous year.
