On January 6th, the Mafra City Council unanimously decided to create the Ericeira Urban Green Park.

The municipality also added that, in order to carry out this project, it will move forward with the detachment of part of the Ericeira Camping site area, justifying that this space “is the only land that the Municipality has close to the consolidated urban area of the village which, in addition to a continuous tree line that provides shade, has the capacity to set up several sports and recreational equipment.”

project includes two ends: construction of the Ericeira Urban Green Park and carrying out the necessary works to improve and renovate the area

At the same time, in a territory distinguished as a Sustainable Tourist Destination and as a World Surfing Reserve, the City Council intends to invest in the qualification of the infrastructures of the Camping Park.

Under the terms of the decision taken, the municipal company Giatul, EM, SA (responsible for operating the Camping Park) was instructed to present the execution project and respective budget by the end of the first quarter of 2023, so that the execution of this investment starts during the current year. The project will include two ends, namely the construction of Ericeira Urban Green Park affecting part of the area allocated to the current camping and the carrying out of the necessary improvement and renovation works in the area that will continue to be allocated to the Camping Park, to the reorganization of spaces.

After a meeting also held on the 6th of this month, Giatul’s Board of Directors decided to communicate to users of the Camping Park, of tents, caravans, mobilehomes or others (whose contracts have expired on the last day of 2022, since, as provided in clause 2, their duration is always limited to December 31 of the year of celebration), to remove all their own goods and equipment from the respective spaces – they may do so until the deadline of February 28 this year, so that the Camping Park will be completely closed on the 1st of March.

This is a necessary condition to enable the improvement and requalification works of this equipment intended for tourism (scheduled to open during next June) as well as the creation of Ericeira’s Urban Green Park.
