In 2026, no new Local Accommodation (AL) establishments will open in Ericeira.
This decision, according to the Mafra Municipal Council (CMM), results from the “limited interest shown in the 2025 application process”.

In June 2025, the CMM launched a procedure for 43 new slots, to be allocated by lottery, for new AL registrations. Of the 47 applications submitted, only 20 were deemed eligible – four were rejected and 23 were considered conditional because they were not properly documented.
In this context, “due to the limited interest shown in the 2025 application process”, the municipality does not “consider it worthwhile to open a new application process” for the registration of new AL establishments during 2026.
Since 2023, there has been a decrease in the number of new AL establishment registrations in Ericeira’s ACAL: in 2023 there were 37 new registrations; in 2024 and 2025 there was only one per year.
