“Here’s the berliner!”. There are several other versions, adapted to the local context and to the seller’s personality who often take us back to our childhood memories, especially those summers spent at the seaside.
Eating one of these cakes on the beach, with or without its creamy inside, became a summer tradition, an almost mandatory ritual for thousands of people along the coast. After a few years off, this ritual returned, calling for familiar flavors and landscapes.
The tradition was renewed and on once more – whether young or experienced salespeople and carrying the berliners in baskets or chilly bins –, ensuring the continuity of this ode to summery gluttony.
