Ericeira’s Passions was born as a “love brand” of Ericeira. Every product tries to depict and materialize an “endless passion”. The latest addition is a notebook – with the originality of some comic strips preceding the blank pages that invite you to write or draw.
Ericeira’s Passions’s aim is to “spread a spirit, an essence, a way of life.” With design pieces inspired in the things the village has to offer its visitors: sun, sea, fresh air and traces of an ancient culture.
This is the spirit behind the brand, a “child” of Rui Santos and João Pedro Barreiros, two friends since they were kids. Both felt there was an unmet need for products representing Ericeira’s passions and decided to give tourists the opportunity to take a piece of Ericeira with them on the way back home. Afterwards, it was just a matter of giving free to their creativity.
A different notebook, with Ericeira inside it.
The latest addition materialized in a notebook. The idea was to make a different notebook, with Ericeira inside it, that is, a notebook that precedes the blank pages with some comic strips, written by Hugo Rocha Pereira and illustrated by Rui Santos.
This new notebook invites you to take notes, immediately after the introductory comic strips, rich in blue and warm shades, toasts at sunset, among other (so local) pleasures fixed in text and image. For the most inventive, it can also serve as an inspiration to create their own “plot” about Ericeira and moments of their holidays they want to register.
For Hugo Rocha Pereira, author of the novels “A Luz e as Sombras” and “Durante o Fim”, “writing about Ericeira is always a pleasure”. In this case, the novelty was to write comic strips, a language he had never explored. It was a challenge to adapt the idea and the narrative to this format. It all happened very spontaneously: Rui Santos had the idea and asked me to write a short story he would illustrate. I accepted the challenge and I am very thankful for the opportunity. I think the result has the merit of being innovative.”
More than telling a story, Hugo Rocha Pereira, who is also the director of AZUL – Ericeira Mag intended to “convey an idea and a feeling” of a foreign tourist that comes to Ericeira and has her first surfing experience. He chose “the fascination with the village; the falls in the waves and the ecstasy of surfing the froth; the relaxed and festive atmosphere on summer nights … and the desire to return to the place where she was so happy.” Sensations depicted by Rui Santos’s drawings and colours.
These vivid memories and utilitarian objects full of passion can be ordered online from Ericeira’s Passions, bouth at Ericeira Business Factory, at the Ericeira Tourism Office (to open again on June 3, the date of the inauguration of World Surfing Reserve Interpretation Centre, that will also share the premises) and other emblematic places in the village.
Our mutual desire to to ensure that inspiration never lacks space to express itself on paper, here and all around the world, with the blue streaks of the sea.
The story does not end here…
