The Main Event of Ericeira WSR+10 – a project developed by Ericeira Surf Clube to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Ericeira World Surfing Reserve – ended about a week ago. Over five days, Praia do Matadouro was the stage for surfing sessions, live surfboard shaping, workshops (circular economy, marine biology and art with coastal rubbish), yoga, live music and several other educational and entertaining activities.
A decade ago, on October 14, 2011, Ericeira was consecrated as the second World Surfing Reserve in the World by the international organization Save The Waves Coalition. 10 years later, Ribeira d’Ilhas again hosted several symbolic moments, including the unveiling of an evocative plaque, with a replica of the same plaque being delivered by the president of Ericeira Parish (Filipe Abreu) to the president of the Ericeira Surf Clube, Miguel Barata de Almeida.
The Main Event did not stop here: between the 11th and 15th of October, the EWSR+10 provided dozens of initiatives to the participants from the partner delegations, from different european countries. The balance was extremely positive, having exceeded expectations both by the organization of the event and by the delegations participating in it.
