In December 2023, the schedule for this year’s Challenger Series (CS) stages was announced, which will determine the surfers qualifying for the main circuit (CT) of the World Surf League (WSL): and Ericeira will once again be one of the competition destinations at the end of September 2024.
The fifth stage of the CS, traditionally held at Ribeira d’Ilhas, will have its waiting period from September 29 to October 6.

The circuit will kick off with two stages in Australia, with the Gold Coast hosting the first competition from April 27 to May 4, followed by Sydney from May 9 to May 16. The tour will continue in Ballito, South Africa, from July 1 to July 8, and in Huntington Beach, United States, from August 3 to August 11.
After the stop in Portugal, the CS will conclude in Brazil, in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, from October 12 to October 20. In this final event, the top 10 male surfers and the top five female surfers will secure their spots in the 2025 CT. The qualification points will be based on the best four results obtained throughout the six stages.
Maintaining the tradition of previous editions, the number of participants will remain at 80 for the male category and 48 for the female category. The competition promises to be intense, with surfers from around the world vying for a spot on the podium and securing their place among the world’s surfing elite.
