Last month the holiday homes search engine Holidu prepared a ranking with the 10 most popular villages or towns in Portugal, whose results were obtained through a study that included all national destinations with less than 20,000 inhabitants.

Ericeira shows up in it as the second most googled national village by the Portuguese people, over the last 12 months.

the fishing town got a total of 49,500 searches per month, reaching the second place in popularity

The ranking was created using the average number of monthly searches on Google for these locations, thus determining the most popular destinations for domestic tourism.

The fishing town got a total of 49,500 searches per month. Known as the “mecca” of Portuguese surfing and for being the first World Surfing Reserve in Europe and the 2nd in the world, it concentrates world-class waves such as Coxos, Ribeira D’Ilhas and Pedra Branca. But this town is not just about surfing: its monumental and gastronomic heritage, based on a large variety of fish and seafood, is also other of its greatest attractions.

Nazaré, in Leiria, also known for being a “mecca” for big wave surfing (every year thousands of tourists look to see the athletes facing the Praia do Norte ‘Cannon’), took the first place cup on the podium, with a total of 90,500 searches per month. Closing the top 3 is Peniche, with 33,100 searches per month.
