Our oceans are getting louder every day as the shipping industry, offshore energy, and tourism grow. This noise pollution disrupts vital behaviors in marine species like dolphins, whales, seals, and fish, threatening their survival. To tackle this challenge, blueOASIS is developing a technology based on Artificial Intelligence (AI), called HydroTWIN, which allows for monitoring and protecting these species by detecting underwater sounds.

This is where this Portuguese deep-tech startup wants to count on you: in order to train the AI algorithms, they need to identify sounds present in audio files of underwater recordings. This work can be done with your help. No experience is required, just an interest in marine life and some free time.

What’s Involved?

After a brief mandatory training session, you will be able to identify specific sounds – such as dolphin clicks, whale songs, or human-made noises (boats, sonar, among others) – in their files. All you need is a computer and a bit of curiosity. By labelling these sounds, you will be directly contributing to critical research that helps protect our oceans.

Why Join blueOASIS?

Not only will you learn valuable skills in underwater acoustics, but you’ll also play a direct role in protecting the ocean. Plus, you’ll be rewarded for your work!
