The Christmas spirit is filling the Municipality of Mafra with “O Natal chegou à Vila” (Christmas has Arrived to the Village), spreading the magic of the festive season from November 29 to January 6. The event brings a program packed with music, magic, and activities for all ages.

The official opening is scheduled for this Friday, featuring two iconic moments: at 6:30 pm in Terreiro D. João V, Mafra, and at 8 pm in Praça da República (“Jogo da Bola”), Ericeira. Both venues promise to enchant the audience with special entertainment and celebrations to mark the start of the Christmas season.

One of this year’s highlights is the exhibition “Presépios de Barro de Portugal” (Clay Nativity Scenes of Portugal) from the collection of Henrique Casquinha, which will be inaugurated on November 29 at 6 pm in the Mafra Clay Interpretation Center. This display will be open until Epiphany, allowing visitors to explore the richness of this quintessentially Portuguese tradition.

The traditional “Christmas Market” will also be held at Terreiro D. João V, in Mafra, and Praça da República, in Ericeira. These beautifully decorated spaces will offer typical products, handicrafts, and Christmas treats, creating the perfect atmosphere for shopping and socializing. Santa Claus will also make weekend appearances in these locations to delight the little ones.

Mafra will also feature a carousel and a circus, ensuring fun for the whole family.

Throughout the municipality, the magic of Christmas will be felt in the streets – with beautiful festive lights and concerts across various parishes, as part of the InNatalis program.

The full program of these celebrations is available on the Mafra Municipality website.
