Surfers are going to compete for national titles on the right-hand waves of Ribeira d’Ilhas, in Ericeira. The Allianz Ericeira Pro, which is part of the Meo Surf League, national surfing’s top division, will take place this upcoming weekend, from May 22nd to 24th.
The competition is the third of five stages deciding the national titles as well as the second of three stops towards the Allianz Triple Crown trophy.
get into the rhythm of the waves and catch the best ones
Maria Salgado and Francisco Ordonhas are considered the favorites for victory, as they currently lead the national rankings. Ordonhas can equal a record of three victories in the League, which was only achieved by Tiago Pires in 2005. “I feel that I can repeat another triumph, but I also know that it will be very difficult”, he says. “I’m feeling very good, I know I can win another event, but I have to keep my feet firmly on the ground. Success does not always depend solely on us, but also on the waves, and in these last events I have managed to get into the rhythm of the waves and catch the best ones.”
Maria Salgado, leading the women’s ranking of the Meo Surf League 2026, also approaches the competition with confidence. “I want to surf well, make good decisions and enjoy the moment. If the result comes, great, but there is still a long championship ahead. I have been feeling good in the water. I’m very focused on myself, on my process and on improving small details.”
Apart from the prize money award, winner’s prize will be a Quiksilver Highline wetsuit. Additionally, the Allianz Ericeira Pro will includes “Olha que Onda Bem Sacada” award by Pingo Doce (best wave of the stage), the Bom Petisco Girls Score (best score exclusively dedicated to women), Montebelo Expression Session (best maneuver competition), Waversby Round (best sporting performance in round 3) and will also have prizes reserved for the best local surfers of Ericeira.
Mafra’s Mayor Hugo Moreira Luís says the circuit’s stop in Ericeira will be a test of excellence in one of the most internationally renowned surfing destinations. “May this stage provide great moments of competition, and may our waves rise to the level of the talent gathered here.”
The event will be displayed live on Sport TV as well as on other official channels: MEO’s YouTube channel, MEO app – available on channel 810 of the MEO channel grid, and at www.ansurfistas.com and social media at @ansurfistas.
