Beaches hold memories of first family vacations, carefree moments with friends, adventures, and traditions. To celebrate this feeling, beachgoers can vote for the beach that has been most meaningful to them in the competition “Praias Memoráveis”.
The initiative by BW and the Bandeira Azul of ABAAE – Associação Bandeira Azul de Ambiente e Educação celebrates the emotional value of the Portuguese coast. Until May 29, beachgoers, local communities, and visitors are invited to vote for beaches across mainland Portugal and the autonomous regions, and also to share their stories.

Rather than focusing on aesthetics, the competition highlights the natural, cultural, and emotional value of the beaches. It aims to foster a sustainable, identity-shaping connection between the coast and the inland regions.
Voting takes place online via the Bandeira Azul website, where participants can also optionally share experiences, photos, or videos. The three beaches with the most votes will receive free BW equipment to enhance comfort, safety, and sustainability.
Ultimately, the competition draws attention to the emotional heritage of Portuguese beaches and seeks to preserve places where unforgettable memories are made.
