Passersby stop to watch, crowds take photos, some stretch out their hands. That’s what it feels like to be a star. At least for Logan, the 5-year-old boxer who’s the center of attention in Ericeira.
The best part is that Logan doesn’t even have to leave home to be a celebrity. He can simply look out over the sea at Largo das Ribas, the fans come to him naturally. As soon as he sits on the scratched yellow stool and rests his paws on the windowsill, pedestrians pull out their cell phones and snap a photo of the big dog in the blue frame.
Ericeira’s iconic boxer
As a puppy, Logan chose his profession as Ericeira’s iconic boxer when he chose the window as his favourite spot. The manager aka his owner Luís Biscaia got him in Constância and brought him home as a surprise. “He didn’t tell me that he was going to get a dog. He just appeared at the house with the puppy”, Luís’ partner Ilona laughs.
But it is her that later comes up with the idea to create a social media account for Logan. “We started to see a lot of people taking pictures and I thought it’s funny to have an account for him. At least so we can also keep the pictures and see what’s happening sometimes when the window is open and we’re out for lunch”, Ilona explains. Since then, fans regularly tag the Instagram account loganajanela in their Stories.
People recognize Logan not only at home but also on the street. And he never seems to tire of his fame. If people start talking to him on a walk, Logan gets very excited and starts running around. Luís doesn’t mind playing the supporting role: “People don’t speak with me on the street, they speak with him. And then sometimes I say “What’s up?” and they keep speaking with Logan and for me that’s perfect, it’s okay.”
Of course, being the superstar he is, Logan also earns money. Every now and then, people leave coins at his window. But Logan is not a capitalist dog. Luís reposts all the Instagram Stories, yet rarely posts on his own and also neglects collaboration requests. “I’m a terrible marketer”, he confesses.
To be liked by him, you have to be a woman
To get a glimpse of the celeb in summertime, you can meet him at the window in the morning and in the evening hours for sunset. If it’s too hot or the surroundings are too loud, he retreats.
When asked if Logan likes the fame, Luís smiles and shrugs. “I think he doesn’t care.” But he also says, Logan loves the people and the life he leads. “Sometimes I would love to be as happy as he is just for existing.”
Logan Hercules, to give his full name, doesn’t need much to be happy. His favorite things in life are eating bread, playing with sand and going on hikes. To be liked by him, typical for a male lead, you simply have to be a woman. But imitating a high-pitched voice will work as well.
“I think one of the things he can give to the world is happiness. He’s a good psychologist”, Ilona says. When watching the scenery, it shows: people always leave “Logan à janela” with a smile on their face.
