For some, it’s called “surfing the static wave”; for others it’s “bodyriver”. Regardless the name, the truth is that this activity provides a lot of fun. The main “ingredients” are a flowing river and a team provided with the tools to connect the course of fresh water to the sea. Then, all you have to do is wait for nature to do the rest and make the most of this more or less rare phenomenon, as in this video filmed and edited by Miguel Silva – Infinity Pic.
Several familiar faces and a beach that hosts one of the seven waves of the World Surfing Reserve of Ericeira. But nobody paddles to the outside, nor dives to go beyond the surf. They start by opening a path in the sand before moving to action, this is, surfing the river waves, small but quite deep. With more or less success, in the end everyone shows a broad smile.
Now that the good weather seems to have come to stay – note that the bathing season started this week – it will take take a long time before this phenomenon provides once again these unique moments. But when the rain returns, people will certainly get the shovels from the garage and get ready for another memorable session.
