The waiting period for the Ericeira SC Invitational began on January 15th, promising to be a standout sports event that will bring together the community and athletes of the Ericeira Surf Clube (ESC) in a celebration of Surfing and Bodyboarding.
The competition, which window extends until February 15th, will take place on a single day at the iconic Praia da Empa—a symbolic location and the perfect setting for both participants and the audience attending the event.

With an exclusive competition format, the event will feature 16 athletes per discipline, qualified through the club’s internal circuits. Additionally, special guest athletes are expected to join, adding even more competitiveness and excitement to the event.
The primary goal is to create a unique and memorable experience, grounded in ethical practices and sportsmanship, for both athletes and spectators. It aims to reinforce the club community’s connections and promote the spirit of sportsmanship while celebrating the passion for the sea and waves that define the identity of Ericeira Surf Clube.
Miguel Barata de Almeida, President of ESC, highlights the event’s significance for both the athletes and the local community: “this first edition represents the spirit of Ericeira Surf Clube: a celebration of sports, unity, and local talent. We want to create a special moment where our athletes can showcase their best in an atmosphere of camaraderie and fun. It’s also an opportunity to bring the community together around what unites us most: the sea and the waves of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve”.
Emphasizing the innovative nature of the competition, Miguel Barata states that its format aims not only to reward those who excelled in the club circuits but also to provide a high-level spectacle for the audience at Praia da Empa. He also underscores the club’s commitment to the development of Surfing and Bodyboarding: “we want this to be an event that stays in collective memory—a milestone in the club’s history and a tribute to the passion we have for our sports”.
