The Austrian surfing community gathered for the third consecutive year in Ribeira d’Ilhas last week for their National Surfing Championship.

The event is becoming an end-of-Summer tradition in Ericeira and attracts dozens of athletes from that Central European country. Moreover, Ericeira is the base of at least three surf camps managed by surfers from Austria, which created a bond between or coastal village and the folks born in lands of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Schubert e Sigmund Freud.

Verena Lobenwein (Women’s Open), Jonas Bachan (Men’s Open), Philipp Sturies (Longboard) and Holger Hassenpflug (Masters) were this year’s Austrian national champions.
