The seventh edition of the Southwest European Classic Safari took place this last weekend, “a tour with a roadbook in roads and dirt tracks for popular 4×2 and 4×4 classics of the 20th century” as described by its organizer Pedro Carrasco, who explains the origin of the initiative: “we started it for fun, in the Summer holidays. We all enjoyed rallys and surfing, and we named it Classic Surfari”. Every other year, the convoy gathers in the Western area, centered in Ericeira and with stages in other places such as Torres Vedras, Bombarral and Óbidos. In “Pêpê” Carrasco’s view, “there are a lot of tours, and even regularilty or velocity rallys to classic cars in Portugal, but none in dirt roads. This one is slightly different, as it allows going into wilder terrains, and having nice sights”. Besides this peculiarity, the gastronomic interests aren’t left behind: “we have some halts to regroup, with visits to local producers or dairies, and winetasting events, ginjinha, sausages or oils.” In short, “these are well spent days, to unwind”, with also the possibility of a rating that contributes to season the tour with enjoyment.
