Recently, the European Blue Flag Association, in a session in Braga, revealed which facilities were awarded the Green Key for this year.
Of the 205 award-winning facilities from all over the country, three belong to the Municipality of Mafra: the local accommodations Casa das Aguarelas and Eco Soul Guesthouse and also the Ericeira Camping campsite, thus maintaining the last year’s distinctions.

The Green Key awards are part of an international environmental education program for sustainability that promotes sustainable tourism through the recognition of tourist establishments, local accommodation, campsites and restaurants that implement good environmental and social practices, valuing environmental management in their facilities.
In 2022, 134 facilities renewed their application, 47 were part of the program for the first time and 24 re-entered this new edition.
In terms of regional distribution, the Madeira region has the highest number of awards with 48, followed by the North region with 43, the Centre region with 38, Algarve with 27, the Lisbon region with 25, the Azores with 16 and Alentejo with 8.
Hotels seem to keep the highest number of winners with 129, while 32 are local accommodation, 26 are rural tourism, 10 are restaurants, 7 are campsites and, finally, one Youth Hostel.
