Created almost a century ago (more specifically, in 1929) by Elzie Segar, Popeye was once considered one of the greatest cartoon characters of all time, having given rise to movies, games and theme parks.
Popeye is a sailor who is dedicated to protecting his girlfriend, Olive Oyl, from the clutches of his eternal enemy, Bluto. Much of his success is due to spinach, which gives him legendary strength.
Passing through Ericeira on the eve of Valentine’s Day, Popeye and Olive Oyl allowed themselves to be photographed by Thomaz Sardinha in some emblematic places in the village where the sea is bluer and where love is lived intensely. If you’ve seen them having lunch or dinner at a restaurant in Ericeira, don’t be surprised… The bill was in the name of Saint Valentine.
