Mafra National Palace receives an honorable mention from the Portuguese Association of Museology

At the end of October, Museu da Marinha, in Lisbon, hosted the awards ceremony of the Portuguese Association of Museology and Mafra National Palace was awarded in the “Incorporation” category.

Among the nominees for this category were Angra do Heroísmo Museum and Lamego Museum, which received awards, and also the Guarda Nacional Republicana Museum which, like the Mafra National Palace, received an honorable mention.

Mafra’s icon was distinguished by the fundraising campaign “Let’s return Infanta Maria to her Palace in Mafra”, which took place at the end of 2020.

Both the Secretary of State for Heritage and Culture, Ângela Correia, and the President of the Portuguese Association of Museology, João Neto, were present at the ceremony, but representatives of the monument classified as UNESCO World Heritage were not present at the time.

Teresa Amaral, from Mafra National Palace, and Ana Catarina Sousa, member of the board of the Association of Friends of the Mafra Convent (Palace Guardians), received the award after the ceremony.
