With the purpose of enhancing the environmental and landscape component of two emblematic spaces of Ericeira – Parque de Santa Marta, located in the heart of the village, and Praia do Matadouro, on the northern limits of the urban core -, the Municipality of Mafra bet on respective requalifications.
At Parque de Santa Marta, the recovery of green spaces was carried out by planting more trees, shrubs of arboreal and herbaceous size and also by reformulating several garden areas. Existing equipment was also renovated, and the irrigation system was replaced by an intelligent system that will allow a more efficient management of water use and guarantee the profitability and savings of this resource. The mini golf and tennis courts have also undergone rehabilitation.

Also in the Espaço de Jogo e Recreio (Playground), located in this park with a privileged view of the Atlantic Ocean, some renovations were made: new equipment for physical training was placed, a new floor in accordance with the current safety standards and structures for children’s recreational activities.
The project to re-qualify the conditions for the use of the Matadouro beach, one of the most appealing beaches for wave sports practitioners (mainly for those who are just starting out in these activities), involves the demolition of the degraded building (the former slaughterhouse) existing in that area and the subsequent construction of a new beach support – smaller than the previous one and with the purpose of supporting sports practice and a cafeteria with a terrace. A reformulation of the stairs that give access to the sand will also be carried out.

The reordering of accessibility to the beach in a sustainable manner and avoiding conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles will also be a priority of this requalification, giving priority to pedestrian access. Bathers will be able to use the car parks in the surrounding area, with only a few exceptions for car access.
