Recently, the Festivities in Honor of Nossa Senhora da Boa Viagem (Our Lady of Good Voyage)’s program, which will take place in Ericeira between August 17 and 22, was released.
It’s been 75 years of celebration of the Patroness of Fishermen, and after two years of interruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Festival Committee betted on festivities for all tastes and for the whole family.

There will be news and the resumption of traditions, dancing processions, shows and fireworks. According to the Festival Committee, this year the Tapete de Areia e Sal (Sand and Salt Carpet) will be resumed, by the hands of Pedro Brites; reusable cups will be sold as well as shirts with the new visual identity of the Festivities; and a commemorative exhibition of the 75th anniversary of Our Lady of Good Voyage Festivities (now held in partnership with the Municipality of Mafra) will be inaugurated on August 2, at 6 pm, at Rua Eduardo Burnay, with a retrospective of the event during this time.
As for the program for this celebrations, where the religious and the profane go hand in hand, the highlights are the following initiatives: concerts by Jorge Guerreiro (on August 17, Wednesday, at 10 pm) and Buba Espinho – on the 18th, Thursday, at 10 pm; Candle Procession (on the 20th, Saturday, from 9:30 pm), with the image of Our Lady of Good Voyage going to the sea, if the maritime conditions allow it; and on the 21st, the Campal Mass (in Largo da Igreja de São Pedro at 12 pm) and the Procession through the streets of Ericeira (from 4 pm), accompanied by the Ericeira Philharmonic Band and the Ericeira Volunteer Firefighters Fanfare.
As usual, Largo das Ribas (overlooking Fishermen’s beach) will be the base of these celebrations that are part of Ericeira DNA, with restaurant service between August 17 and 22.
This year, the Festivities in Honor of Our Lady of Good Voyage are betting on a new visual identity, created by the Ericeira company That’s it!. The new Festivities logo shows a replica of the image that is in the Capela de Santo António, with a boat in his right hand, pointed towards Jesus, whom he holds in his left hand. Our Lady is in turn inside a boat decorated with flowers, not only symbolizing the artisanal processional litter where she has been carried since 1947, as well as the procession to the sea at night. You can only find night processions to the sea in Ericeira and Peniche. The one in Ericeira is the only one that has the Marian characteristic of the “Candle Procession”.
