From the videogames to the skatepark

Far away goes the time when we’d drull all over old arcade videogames in shady game rooms. I mean it hasn’t been that long, but the quick evolution of technologies makes it fell like it was in a far-away yesterday, as if we’d lost track and sense of time.

This verbatim revival is just a motto to understand what Red Bull Skate Arcade is.

The competition is a real thing only based in arcade videogames. The participants have to surppress six difficulty levels by understanding the tricks proposed by the promoters of Red Bull Skate Arcade. Then they video record the trick and upload it to the contest’s website without any edition. The game goes along as the tricks are unblocked every five days and the best riders are chosen depending on the points they get from the videos’ views.

The championship finals went from the computers to reality a couple of weekends ago in Ericeira. The 24 best athletes met at DC Skatepark Boardriders and battled for a place in the international event, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain in September.

Gonçalo Vilardebó, from Oeiras, was this years winner and will represent Portugal in nuestros hermanos country.
