Ericeira is beautiful and magical, it has a natural beauty. I love the streets, the old houses, the sunset and even the rocks: everything shines in the sun or in rain, everything has an unparalleled beauty.
What do you love most and least about Ericeira?
What I like most is the old part of Ericeira and its entire coast; what I like least is its modern part.
What are your main concerns for Ericeira’s future?
It is that so much modernism spoils the natural beauty of this place. And I would like tourism to return to the same quality it used to have. Now we have very weak tourism and most of it just comes to spoil it. For example, I would like to see the grills with sardines on the streets again, as it was a tradition that characterized and defined our traditions. I miss the fishing in Ericeira and the fishmongers selling their fish in the village – in other words, we no longer have many traditions that enriched Ericeira.

What does it mean to be Jagoz?
A Jagoz has to be born and raised in Ericeira, but nowadays nobody is born at home anymore.
Do you consider yourself Jagoza?
Yes, because I love this land since I was little, I always thought of living in Ericeira and here I am for 47 years. I was not born here, I’m from Praia da Assenta, but I consider myself the most jagoza saloia (laughs).
