Whether it’s landscape, architecture, figures, culture or atmosphere, the Hélder Alfaiate Gallery encourages visual artists to take Ericeira as inspiration and submit their works for exhibition.
The inspiration for this group exhibition will be the artist Paula Rego (1935-2022). Ericeira served as the setting for her artwork. The Portuguese painter grew up on a family farm in Ericeira and later studied in London. In 2017 AZUL – Ericeira Mag spoke with Nick Willing, one of her three children, about her roots in the region.
Ericeira is perhaps the most powerful memory that Paula Rego had in her life
“Ericeira was the place that she loved being in as a child and the place where she had the happiest time in her life. It’s the place that, as a child, she remembers most fondly, to where she moved to when she first got together with my father, had her first daughter and where she established herself as a great painter. Ericeira is perhaps the most powerful memory that she has in her life.“
The application deadline for the Open Call is April 30th. Until then, artists can submit existing works of painting, drawing, photography, and illustration that reflect the village’s character.
The gallery exhibition is scheduled to take place this Summer.
