Tapada de Mafra was created in 1747, during the reign of King João V, following the construction of the Mafra National Palace, which adjoins it. Known at the time as Tapada Real de Mafra, its creation was originally aimed to be a royal leisure area dedicated to hunting, in order to allow the entertainment of the royal family and the nobility.
Nowadays, this is an area where visitors are invited to enjoy a forest full of native flora, observe animals living in freedom – from foxes and wild boars to deers and bonelli eagles – and appreciate its unique details.
For this reason, AZUL presents a video, published by the Youtube channel “Floresta Encantada” (Enchanted Forest), which compiles extraordinary footage summarizing a little of the much that this natural space has to offer.
